Is your Miami pool ready for spring swimmers? check this before March

March changes everything in Miami.

Temperatures rise. Usage increases. Chlorine demand jumps. What looked “fine” in winter quickly turns cloudy, unstable, or expensive.

Run this checklist now and enter spring fully prepared.

Start with water clarity and safety

Clear water is not enough. It must be balanced.

Test a full panel.

  • pH between 7.4–7.6

  • Free chlorine aligned with CYA

  • Alkalinity stable

  • Calcium appropriate for your surface

If sanitizer demand is already creeping up, algae is preparing to bloom.

Tip: if you are adding more chlorine than usual, something is off. Fix it before swimmer load increases.

Inspect your filtration baseline

Spring exposes weak filtration fast.

  • Record clean filter pressure

  • Deep clean cartridges if overdue

  • Backwash sand or DE properly

  • Check for channeling or worn grids

Cloudy water in April usually started with poor filtration in February.

Check circulation and flow

Water must move evenly across the entire pool.

  • Verify returns create a circular sweep

  • Confirm no dead spots behind ladders or steps

  • Check pump lid for air bubbles

  • Ensure proper RPM settings on variable-speed pumps

Uneven flow leads to localized algae before full bloom.

Inspect equipment before it’s under stress

Winter hides small issues. Spring magnifies them.

  • Inspect pump seals and unions

  • Check heater ignition and flow sensors

  • Verify automation schedules

  • Inspect electrical connections and GFCI outlets

Small leaks or flow issues now become shutdowns later.

Prepare for heavier swimmer load

More swimmers means more oils, sunscreen, and organics.

Before March:

  • Brush entire surface thoroughly

  • Vacuum fine debris

  • Clean waterline tile

  • Add enzyme treatment if needed

Start clean so increased use doesn’t overwhelm the system.

Confirm water level and skimmer function

Miami rain patterns fluctuate. Low water pulls air. High water reduces skimming efficiency.

Keep water at mid-skimmer and confirm strong suction.

Avoid the March rush

Service calendars fill quickly once spring arrives. Waiting creates delays, emergency pricing, and reactive fixes.

Preparation in February is strategic. Waiting is reactive.
